css & xhtml

The following project was the first website I designed and developed completely on my own (upon completion of my "in class" studies). This was the co–op component of my program.

the need

This site was done for a Barrie based business, Edling Services, that was in need of a redesign.

the fix

Edling Services Website

my redesign

The owner, Michael Edling wanted to get the point across that; although Edling Services specializes in roofing, they can and do, provide many other renovation services.

The business name was changed from "Edling Roofing Services" to "Edling Services". I went to work on designing a new logo, using Photoshop and Illustrator. Mike’s only requests were that the logo contain a roofline and that the colours of the layout be warm.

The old site was done using two sets of frames, so I began coding from scratch, making the new site with XHTML, CSS and adhering to W3C Standards.

The new logo incorporates a red roofline and the look of wood in the lettering (bringing out the construction aspect of the business). The main navigation has the look of shingles (roofing being the company’s specialty), and the colours I used in the layout were warm browns and reds. New images were also added, giving the site a clean, professional look.

And last, but not least, I input the Meta Tags. These SEO techniques (Search Engine Optimization) will prove quite benficial to the client’s "bottom line". Search and ye shall find!
