web grafix

This site was done for a business named Melee Tournaments (located in Barrie, Ontario), that hosted console video game tournaments. Please note (unfortunately) that this business is no longer operational.

the need

The company was owned and operated by a young enterpreneur, James Best, and since the company was brand new, this website was absolutely a "concept to completion" project.

my design

For this site, I first designed a logo (using Adobe Photoshop CS2 and Adobe Illustrator CS2) and then developed the overall layout of the website, incorporating a "fun look & feel" … to appeal to our target market.

I began coding with XHTML and CSS, as well as PHP and MySQL, since this website required the development of an extensive, fully functional database to accomodate an online registration form.

Also needed, were Ecommerce cababilites for this website, to co–ordinate the entry fee with the online registration form. This I accomplished by setting up a PayPal link, that allows registrants the option of paying by credit card or PayPal. Of course, I also set up a downloadable PDF file, for registrants that choose to pay offline.

Another learning experience I gained from this project was the addition of the little favicon (image located in the address bar of the browser). I had always thought they looked cool, but this was the first time I had produced one of my own.

Overall, this was a very in–depth web project, from which I gained a lot of useful programming and database development skills (not to mention patience and perserverence!).
